Bright. Thoughtful.
Joyfully engaging.

The Zest Collection is designed for readers in the early stages of dementia or anyone who simply benefits from a more accessible reading experience—without giving up the pleasure of a real, grown-up story.
These books include gentle reading supports like slightly larger fonts, extra white space, and shorter chapters, but the stories are rich in character and plot. You’ll find cozy mysteries, heartfelt dramas, and gentle humor that adults can enjoy with dignity.
Why it works:
In early-stage dementia, many readers can still enjoy books, but benefit from writing that’s clear, familiar, and easy to follow. Zest books keep cognitive effort low, while emotional engagement stays high.

Zest FAQs
What stage of memory loss are these books for?
The Zest Collection is designed for people in the early stages of dementia or readers experiencing mild cognitive changes. They’re perfect for those who still enjoy traditional storytelling but benefit from extra support with layout and pacing.
Are Zest books only for people with dementia?
Not at all. Zest books are for anyone who wants a lighter reading experience with beautiful, grown-up stories. They’re great for stroke recovery, low-vision readers, or anyone who needs easier-to-process text, such as ESL learners or adults with IDD. Some titles also work great as 30-minute mysteries, with solvable puzzle stories that appeal to people of all abilities.
Will my loved one be embarrassed by the books?
We’ve worked hard to design all of our books, no matter the collection, with dignity. There are no labels about dementia on the covers. These look and feel like real books, packed with thoughtful stories and adult characters. The Zest collection, especially, would look at home on any bookshelf.
Can I read these with my grandparent or parent?
Yes! These books are wonderful for intergenerational reading. Caregivers, children, and older adults often enjoy reading Zest books together, sparking conversation and connection.
What are the questions at the end of each chapter?
The questions at the end of each chapter are thoughtfully designed by experienced Activity Directors who understand the needs of adults with memory loss. Rather than testing memory or asking for specific details from the story, these gentle, open-ended questions encourage personal reflection. They invite readers to share memories, preferences, and feelings, helping to spark meaningful conversation without causing frustration. For caregivers, the questions offer a comforting structure for connection, easing communication and providing a moment of relief and joy in shared storytelling.
